Solomon Katz

European historian (1909-1985).   Born in Buffalo.  Professor at the University of Washington throughout most of his career.  Published significant scholarly journal articles and books in late Roman and early medieval history.   Among his works are The Decline of Rome and the Rise of Medieval Europe (1955), a survey of the period, and The Jews in the Visigothic and Frankish Kingdoms of Spain and Gaul (1937), which discusses the structure of Jewish society in the immediate pre-medieval period within the general culture.
