The End of Western Civilization and the Decline of Democracy

is the proposed title of a manuscript now in progress. In this ms. I hope to show that there is a universal attack on all those values and conditions which are the basis of our Constitution and which are also the foundations of the limited democracy practiced in western Europe for over two hundred years.

     The evidence for this probable outcome of current events is manifold. A most recent example was the jailing of Kim Davis, a Kentucky citizen who refused to  issue a marriage license to two men. Indeed the Supreme Court has ruled that homosexual marriages are the right of all Americans. This ruling may be viewed as obnoxious by that segment of the population who believe that the Torah rightly condemns sex between two men. Heretofore religious beliefs have been protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution, which holds that “Congress shall make no law respecting the institution of religion or the free exercise thereof.” Therefore, conscientious objectors have always been exempt from the military draft and religious institutions have not paid taxes. Native Americans have been granted the right to use peyote, a drug otherwise prohibited, as a part of their religious ceremonies.

     Yet, a judge ordered the jailing of a woman whose religious beliefs demand that she not support homosexual conduct. The two men who demanded she issue them a marriage license had the option of going to another county for such a license but chose to demand this from Ms. Davis because they seek to impose their lifestyle on anyone who does not agree with them. Therefore, the jailing of Ms. Davis is not only an attack on religious freedom, it also violates the right to freedom of speech, as we can now expect that anyone who speaks out against homosexual conduct can expect a jail sentence.

     Almost all American Jews support the so-called “liberal” agenda. The word “liberal” at one time stood for the belief that the individual had the right to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right to freedom of assembly, so as to “petition the government” concerning whatever grievances citizens sought to present.

     Now we find that freedom of speech is under attack, as “liberals” shout down anyone who seeks to present a view not to their liking. The F.B.I. demands that librarians tell them who borrowed which books, and the U.S. Government listens to all telephone conversations and collects all emails.

     Unending agencies of nonelected bureaucrats tell us what to do, think, believe, write, or promote, even as the President ignores Congress and rules by fiat like a king.

     The Jewish community therefore needs to remember the proverb, “All that we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.” Jews ought to know that at all times and in all places in which religion came under attack, where freedom was abolished, and the few ruled over the many, we Jews became the first victims. Already those who don’t like religious freedom are demanding that Kosher slaughter be prohibited. These same “liberals” also support the acquisition by Iran of a nuclear bomb designed to destroy Israel.

     In Europe, anti-Jewish hate is so prevalent that numerous  public opinion polls demonstrate that the 1.4 million Jews living among 750 million Europeans face another holocaust unless they emigrate promptly. It is significant that the Germans in particular are welcoming 800,000 Muslims from Iraq, Syria and North Africa, even as they once more express a medieval hatred for the few Jews still living among them.  

    The conclusions we must draw from all this are evident. European culture is as wedded to hatred of Jews as it is to technology, literature, or sauerkraut. Hatred is part of German, and in somewhat lesser measure, all of European culture. It can no more be eradicated than eliminating the German language or the music of Wagner.

     In this country, anti-Jewish hate is defused by calling it anti-Israel. Yet, there can be no doubt that those who boycott, divest, and sanction Jewish owned business seek to kill all Jews, Nazi style if they only could. They are the “liberals” of our day. The great mystery therefore is: “Why do American Jews support their own destruction?”
