The Muslim Persecution of Christians

Commentary by Dr. Gerhard Falk

Christians

Al Watan is a Saudi newspaper. On August 10 of this year, that paper launched a vitriolic attack upon the Christian religion. The paper complained that Christians had become anti-Islam since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The Saudi Gazette, another example of the Saudi government controlled press, claimed that Christians were “raising the dust of hate” against Saudi Arabia.

Amidst these complaints the Saudis said nothing about the fact that 15 of the 19 hijackers who murdered 3,000 Americans were Saudi citizens as is Osama bin Laden, their mastermind.

Now we learn that in Pakistan a mob of Muslims destroyed a Christian church, then invaded the pastor's home and stabbed him to death.

In Egypt a man converts from Islam to Christianity. Thereupon he is arrested by the police without a charge and tortured with an electric probe in order to get information about other converts. In Cairo, the capital of Egypt, there is a City of the Dead. This is a cemetery where tens of thousands of squatters live in the mausoleums. These are the Christians of Cairo who make their living rummaging through garbage dumps for anything they can find to eat or sell since Christians have no rights whatever in Egypt.

In the Sudan, a Roman Catholic boy is seized by the Muslim police while playing outdoors. He is beaten severely and then sent into slavery after being given a Muslim name.

In the Philippines, a Muslim gang beheads two Jehovah's Witnesses.

In Ethiopia a Christian is seized by Muslim police. Boiling oil is poured on the soles of his feet for the “crime” of preaching Christianity.

In Beth Lechem (granary), which Israel turned over to the Palestinians, 90 percent of the population was Christian under Israeli rule. Today, only three years after the Muslims took it, one half of the Christians left because their lives are made miserable by the Muslims. The abandonment of Beth Lechem continues, so that the Pope recently urged his followers to stay there and not abandon Christianity’s holiest site.

In Indonesia, the most populous Islamic state, Christians are under constant attack. Churches are burnt, the clergy assaulted and 320 Christians murdered in only one attack as Christian literature is confiscated. In Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, a crowd emerged from a mosque, killed a goat and smeared its blood on a cross while screaming anti-Christian slogans.

In Lebanon a 60 year old Maronite Christian nun was raped and murdered by a Muslim mob on the grounds of Beirut University. In that same country a pregnant Christian woman was hacked to death by the Islamist group called “Al Takfir Wal Higra”. There also, a car bombing occurred in the Christian village of Kolaia as several churches were burnt to the ground.

Similar attacks have taken place in almost all Muslim states even as some Islamic clerics rant against our country right here in the United States.

For years all of this was ignored by the Christian churches in this country and certainly in Europe, whose dependence on Arab oil is so great that the Europeans are far more willing to see their brethren persecuted than to miss even one gallon of oil. It is of course also true that Christianity is in serious decline in Europe, where the secularists are now engaged in an anti-Jewish hate campaign easily comparable to the situation in pre-Nazi Germany, i.e. in the late 1920’s and early ‘30’s.

In this country, thank G’d, a different scenario has emerged. Here, a Jewish lawyer, Michael Horowitz, sent 143 letters to missionary organizations alerting them to the worldwide persecution of Christians. A Reagan appointee to the Office of Management and Budget, he has also influenced the Republican party in this regard. As a result, Congress has passed a bill seeking to penalize any nation which persecutes anyone on the grounds of religion. The bill proposed a range of actions to be taken by the president. These actions range from a diplomatic protest to economic sanctions. The bill passed the Senate 98-0 and passed the House by an overwhelming voice vote.

A Jew has awakened the conscience of America .

This entire matter is still largely unknown among the majority of the American population, although it has become a more frequent topic on television and radio discussion “shows”.

It behooves us, as Americans, to give a copy of the essay you are now reading to our Christian friends so that they may be alerted to the danger which we Jews and our Christian brethren face together.

Shalom u’vracha.
